In an effort to improve the stopping of "runaway" race vehicles, NPR has installed a 300-foot long pea gravel pit in the runoff area. The $40,000.00 "pit" is 60-feet wide and is filled with 3-feet of pea gravel. Race cars may have to be detailed after an incursion into the pit, but we believe that this improvement will help to bring out-of-control race cars to a complete stop. This type of application is used to stop runaway 18-wheelers coming down mountain roads. We all hope that no one has to be the first to try it, but if it happens to be me, I'd rather have the rocks under my car than loose the rocks in my head.

Tot,
I'd be willing to bet that your golf cart cant go 60 inches into the gravel. Shannun, Not a national event... just keeping it safe for the Lucas Oil @ 1/4 mile. Some of the other D-4 tracks has to run Top Alcohol to 1,000 feet. Didn't want that to happen here. Pat |
