Hey Guys/Gals. Mr. Peter and Myself discussed some new things to get more Bikes racing out here. First...We want to start up a Street bike class at all q-16 races. We need at least 9 bikes per event to justify it. If less than 9, we will combine with the race bikes as usual. We need your input on this... The next topic is bike #s and Dial ins....our problem is the bikes take ALL of our radio time as we call them in to the tower and if someone else speaks on the radio while we are trying to send them to the tower...we just missed YOUR info...Peter and I came up with two solutions 1) We would require everyone to have # and Dial plates big enough for the tower to read mounted on the Bike. or 2) We put your bike # and Dial on paper before round #1 and have Peter/myself take to the tower. You can still Change it after that round, but must inform us before the next round and with enough time to get it to the girls before we are running bikes. We are looking for Input please. Thanks Kevin

I think this is a great Idea. We are going to need some rules on what is a "Street Bike". No stretch, No bars, No gizmo's kind of thing. That would give new comers a chance to run against another street bike. I knew when I started racing if I pulled Peter or Patrick 1st round it’s a short night for me. But I stuck it out and learned, some guys might get turned off way too early racing all out race bikes. This would give them a better chance. Put the word out on Wednesday nights that’s when most street bike racers come out there. As far as the dial-in’s something has to be better than what is going on now. I know someone had their dial put in wrong and lost. And he was not happy. You can go buy a dial-in board or go on the cheap flat black paint on a blank license plate and chalk anything to not have a mistake.

I think the dial in should be on the bike so the people in the tower can read it. Thats how it is at most tracks and it seems to work fine.... The problem with turning it in on paper to someone is that if u turn it in and then there is an oil down or any other shut down and u decide to change your dial in u then have to leave your bike in the staging lanes and go up to the tower and change it. Thanks.

Concerning the dial-in's, as Dave said, at 'most' any other track, you are required to have your bike number AND dial in on the tower side of your bike. This is not asking much to make this happen. Make it a requirement to race, plain and simple. A small chalkboard type dial in board is about $5.00, and the flip-style dial in boards like some of us have is about $25.00. For the bike numbers, stickers are cheap too.

Concerning the classes, I would love to see it like we did for the Coonass blowout and like we do for the Cajun Shootout....have a Non-Electronics (no-box) class, and an Electronics class. Its simple and it works.
99% of the streetbikes that race at the track are stretched out, that's our 'wheelie bars', its a safety item to prevent us from flipping over. I would keep allowing wheelie bars in the non-E class just like we do now, as long as they don't have a delay box. A wheelie bar to me is the same as a stretched swingarm, its used for safety. The boxes are the only things that separate us.
What would be cool too is that if the winner's of both classes could race each other for a bonus $50.00 or something like that. That would make it fun.

Let's make this happen!!!!

On a different note, if NHRA would make a streetbike class for the Division races, I bet they would pick up over 50 entries for each race. That's the reason I don't race Division 4. I can cut a good light on occasion, but not like the electronics bikes do. They are in a league of their own.

What I would like to see is more motorcycles on Q-16 race day. But to have 2 classes of motorcycles we would have to make it worth it to the track. The track would have to have 2 trophys, 2 pay out etc...so there cost goes up. We would need bike count to go up. I see a lot of bike racers on Wednesday and Friday nites that we can talk to and get there input on what it takes to get them to race on Saturday. If we can get a good commitment from them maybe the track would do this and our sport will grow. I believe a lot of street guys might try it knowing they won't have to race the pros with electronics. But I would'nt want to see the electronic class dimish either. As far as rules, we make it easy... Street-no elrectronics at all, stretch swing arms and wheelie bars okay but no slick, street tires. Electronic-all else.Lets talk this up and see if we can make it happen. If we can show NPR that it will work I know they will do it. Peter

Would you consider letting the sport bikes post their bike # and dial in on the windscreen?

I would think that as long as the tower can see your dial in and bike number it would be alright. As a racer I want the chance of an error to be at as small as possible and I would work at keeping it small. Write it on your helmet, windscreen, your back, as long as the tower can see it. But a number board or decals would make it alot easier on the tower.

We are game for either a simple no electronics, or a no slick street bike class, allowing the mods. mentioned above by Peter. The problem with #s and Dials on a street windscreen is 1) Our tower window location. We can only see the Left side of the bike, not the front when you are at the ready line. Therefore, we would still have radio call ins, which is what I want to get away from. #2) The screens are most of the time too small for both #s and dials anyway. You guys think/talk about it and come see me Wends. or give me a call. 903-521-0851 Leave me a message and I will call you back. I would like to get this done for this weekend Q-16 race. Thanks-Kev

Since I run the least modified street bike on Saturdays, I'm all for this. My question is, what constitutes electronics? Delay box, Two step, Electric clutch switch, Air shifter?

Delay boxes and 2-step's. Some racers use factory rev-limiters as a 2-step, which is ok.
Air shifters are not considered electronics. The MSD Launchmaster for streetbikes is a 2-step and would not be permitted. I have one of these on my bike, but I would have to keep it unplugged as it is now if I were to race in the streetbike class. This box works off of the factory clutch switch and would not be allowed.

Where are they, the street/stock bike racers? Didn't see any last Q-16 and I don't think I see any at the next. I believe now that the ones who want to race on Q-16 day, already are.

I need to order decals and number plates. I've been running my street car in the meantime. This old boy is slow, but wants to play.
