Johnny Ezell continues to stymie the non-believers in 2009. With yet another win in Belle Rose the shiney young gun stretched his points @ NPR and steadied his aim atop the SCR points race. Ezell returned to State Capitol again this Labor day to stack another win atop an incredible record his rookie year, a feat he began by winning his first race behind the wheel of a dragster almost 5 hours from home.
*********************2009...AN EASY YEAR TO REMEMBER*********************************** After an impressive performance in Baton Rouge on July 18th, Ezell remained sharp at the Aug. 9th NPR points race, making it two 1/8 mile races in a row. Battling through the rain shortened event, the teen fabricator, paint and finish line specialist paced the field and was never seriously challenged at the starting line. With a solid .016 average Ezell laid down (6)4.84's, five of which were dead on runs. An anxious effort from young Kerry Cortez in the finals handed Ezell another win and added to his position in the lead of the NPR points contest. **E-Z CHASSIS TAKES AIM AT ITS 6TH CHAMPIONSHIP IN NPR'S SHORT HISTORY** Fast forward to Labor day weekend; after rain cancelled the Saturday portion of the racing activities at SCR, Ezell performed the only action he could to make it a sunshine day. The Ventress-based racer fired off round one of eliminations with a .003 light, turned back hitter John Shay with a .018 package and closed out the race with .004, .008 and .014 finish line margins. A solid .010 light was too much for finalist Chris Morris' .033 starting line effort, yielding distance and allowing Ezell to lift for the win.
